Sunday, Jan. 17 - Drumming in the Yurt!!
Come for our monthly drum circle and experience the magic of drumming in the yurt. Bring your drum, another percussion instrument, or your dancing feet and let's have some fun. Bellydancers welcome. We'll have a potluck dinner after the event so bring a dish to share and a drink of your choice.

Sat., Jan. 23 - Knitting with Intention
Want to learn how to knit or have a project that you're working on that you'd like help with? Come for a fun-filled day and learn knitting basics with Amy Burgess and Ellen Whiteside. Beginners will learn how to make a scarf. Lunch is included.

Fri. Jan 29 - Sun. Jan. 31 - Couples Massage Weekend
Bring your spouse or loved one and learn some basic massage techniques to enhance your relationship. Ellen Whiteside, LMBT, NC lic. # 05743, and Tim Beebe, LMBT, NC lic. # 05929 will teach this class. In the evening, we'll gather around a roaring bonfire and eat s'mores.

Sat., Jan. 30 - What Does 2010 Hold for You?
Come meet Susan Reynolds, a professional astrologer for over 25 years who has recently relocated to Concord, NC from Atlanta, GA. She has given talks in New York,Washington, D.C., and Atlanta on what to expect this year. Susan will talk about planetary influences for 2010 and what we should expect. She combines this with her own intutitve insights and gives specific predictions for international events, economic forecast, weather patterns & global changes, as well as, celebrity predictions and general trends. She will also give a brief overview as to what is going on with each astrological sign for 2010 and what they should expect and how they can best use this energy. Bring your specific questions for Susan, as we will have time for questions and answers after her talk.

Sun. Jan. 31 - Imbolc/Candlemas Celebration
Come celebrate this fire festival of the Celtic goddess St Brigid. Traditionally this is when the new year energy is clarified, purified and powered forward with fire celebration. We'll gather in the Yurt at 5 pm and begin with drumming. Steve Nelson will talk about the meaning of this day. Bellydancers and all dancers are welcome. Feasting begins in the Log House at 7:00 pm and this will be followed by gathering around a really big bonfire (thanks to Tim Beebe our master fire maker) in our stone circle. We'll wrap up about 9 pm so those who have driven a long way can be back home at a good time.
Please bring ~
1) a drum or other instrument to play
2) a covered dish to share and a drink of your choice
3) candles for blessing with magic for the year.

Sun. Feb. 7 - African Drumming & Dancing
Come enjoy this amazing day of drumming and dancing.
1:00 - 3:00pm - Basic African Drumming Rhythm and Technique taught by Dr. Saleef Kafajouffe, (Dr. K).
3:30 - 5:30pm - Introduction to African Dance taught by Saleef's daughter, Trinell Harris, a professional African dancer from Michigan.
Dr. Kafafouffe is an educator, a performer, and a counselor. He has performed and taught in the United States and Ghana, West Africa. He was the lead drummer for a Michigan professional interpretive West African Dance troupe and owned and operated his own international drum and dance studio, The Djembejam Studio, in Lansing, Michigan. He also was the founder, director, lead drummer and choreographer for the Olivet College dance troupe, as well as co-founder and lead drummer for the interpretive West African dance troupe "Ritabi" (River of Life). He has served as adjunct faculty (Drummer) with the Department of Dance, UNC-Charlotte and is currently Resident Educator/Artist at Sacred Grove Retreat Center.
Cost: $25 for either class or $45 if you do both.

Sun. Feb. 14 - Drumming Intonation in the Key of Fun
Before our drum circle at 3:00pm, Dr. K will teach the language of good djembe playing - how to hit the drum, where to hit the drum, what the results should be, and more. This is a great class to learn the fundamentals of drumming.

Sat. Feb. 20 - Learn to Felt
Please join us for this Felting Class taught by Barbara Bryan, who has been a fiber artist for 25 years. Learn to manipulate fibers right from the shearings of the animal ( well, almost!) into fabulous items for function or display. We will make samples of wet felting using the following techniques: flat felt, 3 dimensional felt ( both solid and hollow), nuno felt ( the fiber and cloth become laminated), and needle felting. Felting is lots of fun, simple to learn, and easy to do at home. Felting requires a little upper body strength, and a creative spirit!!
Bring a lunch with you. Beverages and snacks will be provided.
